From the Pastor – 3 March 2024

Dear brothers and sisters,

“Remember the sabbath day and keep it holy.” (Exodus 20:8)

· What is Tenebrae? Meaning “Office of Darkness”, it is the prayer Roman rite Catholics have been praying on Good Friday evening for the last 1500 years.  As we are praying, the whole church goes into complete darkness.

· Is the confessional soundproof?  We’ve had mixed reports.  Please give feedback to Father so we know whether or not to get tradesmen in.

· Thank you to our generous Croatian parishioners for building our garden tomb.

· Our Facebook page is back online.  Notices will be published there, so please click the “Like” button to start receiving parish notifications.

· Given some big upcoming expenses, we need to make sure we are using our resources well.  We are taking time to consider how best to communicate with you, our youth, and those who don’t know Jesus in Berala. This means over the coming months we will be trialling how to make the most of the space, colour (if any) and budget to produce the parish bulletin.  Please help us by your patience and your feedback to Father.

· In conjunction with the Archdiocese a second young man, Patrick, will join the parish for a few months to discern his vocation.  Please make him welcome.

· In conjunction with Lidcombe and Auburn parishes, we will be welcoming a big wooden cross the week before Holy Week in order to help us deepen our preparations for Easter. The program is in the bulletin.

· The Saturday morning 8am mass on 9 March will be offered for the deceased members of the Emmanuel Community.  Mass may be slightly longer, but the music will be excellent.  Adoration and Confessions will follow as usual.

Yours in Our Lord,

J+
