From the Pastor – 25 February 2024

Dear brothers and sisters,

Word of God for the week:

“With God on our side, who could be against us?” (Rom 8:31)

Q&A: Are we able to know something about God just with our intelligence alone?

Yes.  Just by noticing the created world, what things and people are like, we are able to work out, through our intelligence alone, that God exists, that the world comes from him, that the point of the world is God, and that he is the highest good, and is infinite truth and beauty.

Inaugural Cross Week

In conjunction with Lidcombe and Auburn parishes, we will be welcoming a big wooden cross the week before Holy Week in order to help us deepen our preparations for Easter and our love for what Jesus did for each of us.  The program is in the bulletin.

Special Saturday Mass 8am 9 March

The Saturday morning 8am mass on 9 March will be offered for the deceased members of the Emmanuel Community.  Mass may be slightly longer, but the music will be excellent.  Adoration and Confessions will follow as usual.

Inaugural Annual St Peter Chanel and St Joseph Bush Dance

On the 29 June 2024 we will be having our first annual bush dance to celebrate our parish feast day.  The program will be 5pm solemn mass, 6pm dinner, and then 7pm-11pm dancing.  Don’t worry if you don’t know how to dance, the dancing will be communal and instructions will be given by the band.  Only 200 tickets – be they adults or children – will be available.  To book and pay please contact the parish: [email protected] or 96447787.

Prospective seminarian in the parish

A young man from Vietnam, Peter, is joining our parish till 12 March to learn English and discern with the diocese if he will join Sydney as a seminarian.  Please make him welcome.

A simple way to discover God’s love for you

Do you want a simple way of deepening your experience of God’s love for you?  Of developing a relationship with Jesus?  Of having your daily life transformed by the Holy Spirit?  The Alpha Course is a simple and effective way to do this.  We will start the session after Easter.  We encourage everyone, Christian or non-Christian to do this course at least once in your life.  We will give more information soon.

First Fridays School of Adoration

How do I pray?  The best way to learn is to start praying.  The Emmanuel Community are helping us restart the traditional practice of a holy hour before the Blessed Sacrament on the first Friday evening every month. At 7.45pm there will be a brief talk, 8pm adoration and benediction, 9pm tea & coffee.  All are welcome, especially if you aren’t used to it or are non-Christian.  Please book it in your diaries.

Yours in Our Lord,

J+
