Becoming Catholic

Catholic Inquiry

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A)

Mission: To provide a process for non-Catholic persons seeking information about Catholicism and to prepare those who wish to become Catholic for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Catholic Inquiry is a program modelled after the catechumenate of the first centuries of the Church’s history. It is an organised system of catechetical instruction presented by priests and laity of the parish. The program runs over several months up to the Easter Vigil Ceremonies. At the Easter Vigil, those who have made the decision to share the Faith of the Catholic Church and to become a part of the faith community at St Peter Chanel and St Joseph are welcomed into the Church and receive the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

The program usually commences after Easter, during May-June. It will then follow through until the next Easter ceremonies. Outside of these periods, arrangements for instruction and formation in the Faith can be made directly with the priests of the parish.

Anyone interested in inquiring about the Catholic Faith is welcome to make contact with a priest of the parish by phoning the parish office.
